Janine Awai is a librarian, artist, and designer with keen interests in experimentation and innovation. Raised in the island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Janine emigrated to the U.S. to study Fine Art at the University of South Florida, where she graduated with a concentration in Printmaking in 1995. For several years, she worked as a scenic painter for theatrical design and production companies as well as teaching art to children with learning disabilities. As one of the early members of the Tampa art collective Experimental Skeleton (a collaborative design, research, and production studio) Janine contributed to several collective exhibitions and public art installations. In 2004, she decided to make a career change and returned to USF to earn her Master’s in Library Information Science. In recent years Janine has worked as a librarian, archivist, and development coordinator for non-profits.

LiveWork Studios is the culmination of Janine’s lifelong ambition to combine her interests in the arts, design, and community activism under one roof.
